Expanding Understanding’s “Sensational Soft Skills Toolbox” a primer

Expanding Understanding’s “Sensational Soft Skills Toolbox”™ a primer, By Kurt Larsson

Sensational Soft Skills ToolboxSoft Skills are finally beginning to attract long denied attention. All those skills that encourage us to be more socially competent and that add a bit more color to our ability to express ourselves may finally be seen as not only relevant but profitable to employ.
It’s about time!

Are you also developing a sense that current ”business as usual” practices can no longer continue in their present form? Did you know that more and more people would rather “text” someone than speak with them face to face? Children now routinely sit next to each other in their school lunch room, say nothing to their friends while focused upon their smart phones. Whether or not you are an executive, a middle manager, a sales professional, a speaker, a teacher, a member of an organization, a parent or anyone that serves others, can we agree that something needs to and is beginning to fundamentally change if we are going to survive, prosper and communicate together?

Workplace stress levels, sleepless nights and co-worker dis-ease continue to increase as the pace of business explodes. How many friends do you know who have ”hit the wall” or burnt out due to stress and over work? Those lucky enough to have a job are now often doing more work than two or three workers did just a generation ago. Ponder this; do you ever feel guilty when you are faced with a bit of free time? More people are now wisely beginning to question the effects of just getting another prescription to deaden the senses while continuing to behave in the same manner that caused their imbalance in the first place. Despite feeling worse to start with, what if this questioning process is, in fact, progress? You may have already noticed that the most transformational ”Aha”s you may experience usually start life as, pardon me, an ”Oh Shit!” experience instead. This does signify progress, as before you weren’t even aware of the behavior at all.

Very few could seriously deny that technology has made us more efficient at collecting knowledge and automating the decision process. Now, many seem to be beginning to appreciate that to transform this wealth of information into actionable understanding still requires addressing the human senses, maybe all the way down to the cellular level. It has been said that in the not too distant future all tasks requiring muscle will be done by machine and all tasks requiring intellect will be done by computer. Futurists expect that people employed in those two large sectors will have to become more personally responsible and skilled in social and leadership skills, if they want to remain employed. Expanding Understanding’s “Sensational Soft Skill Toolbox™ is a comprehensive first attempt to remedy this process by creating a central toolbox for all tools relating to creating, maintaining and improving your ability to fully express yourself, create understanding and encourage unity through lasting, positive relationships.

Expanding Understanding’s ”Sensational Soft Skills Toolbox”™ and its contents are designed to apply to anyone intent upon increasing their ability to communicate in a way that  inspires and moves others into action. It is a collection of 7 drawers (more on that later) of simple and effective tools, methods, tips and tricks designed to work from the inside out, focusing on identifying dusty, outdated or just inefficient behavior patterns. You, the reader, are then offered a choice,  reason(s) and the how to for you to change them. It encourages you to become more sensational and consequential in your actions and communication.

Currently there are over 100 of them and growing. Most are ancient in origin, some are in common use already, some are based upon excellent ideas from others and finally some have been created here. All are enhanced and presented from my own interpretation of their origins and meanings. Credit to the source(s) is given where and when it is known.

Each new blog will highlight one of these tools with the intention that you can at least begin to notice its influence in your life and work. The blog is meant to give you an educational taste of each Soft Skill’s power and application. They are presented more comprehensively in our workshops to create understanding and behavior change. Their introduction and application arises from the context of the workshop conversation. A book and other learning tools are also in process. Should you be inspired enough to want to apply these tools to your workplace or team, please do not hesitate to contact us here. We will be glad to explain in detail their application and results others have experienced.

We hope you use and enjoy this blog, the highlighted tools and the results they/you produce.

About The Author

I am fascinated with what makes us humans ”tick”, especially when it comes to how we consciously communicate and express ourselves with our body language. My business background is in international sales and sales management, selling everything from automobile tires in Houston, Tx, to retail banking delivery systems in 20 countries. I have graduated from CoachU’s 3 year Coach Training program, been certified as an Extended DISC consultant and become a Certified International Body Harmony Teacher with over 20 years of ”hands-on” experience in bodywork. This rich and varied background combined with over 20 years of being an entrepreneur has blessed me with insights and experiences I never would have noticed in the corporate world. Mainstream business now seems to be waking up to the riches available from more conscious and responsible business practices. Expanding Understanding’s Sensational Soft Skills Toolbox , the books I have written and training I have developed now provide savvy decision makers and their colleagues measurable results and a more restful night's sleep. These tools provide an edge in consciously understanding, deliberately using and profiting from the most powerful communication tool available, our bodies. I look forward to meeting you on this path to mastery in non verbal communication.
