Higher ambition LeadershipWhen it comes to business communication and the Post-Commercialism era in which we now find ourselves entering, evidence is building that using soft skills is changing from a luxury to a necessity. What if working with soft skills and becoming more conscious of your body language is going to provide the savvy businessperson with a very sharp competitive edge from now on.

Last Monday evening I was invited to participate in a very interesting and timely conference called “Higher Ambition Leadership” at Berns in Stockholm. It was put on by True Point Partners in conjunction with Professor Michael Beer from Harvard Business School, chairman of the board for the Center for Higher Ambition Leadership. One of the messages of the conference was that business is getting much more personal, emotional and honest. Creating your ”brand” is no longer enough. Going forward, you will now have to transform it into something for which you can ”stand”.

Although most of the discussions did involve the transformation of both the organization as well as the ambitious leader running it, I sensed an opportunity to get even more personal regarding each individual person. What caught my attention most were some wonderful key phrases actually expressed during the evening to describe future business, which included:

  • A higher lever of trust

  • The ability to learn and renew

  • Focusing on the relational instead of the transactional

  • Creating emotional attachment

  • Engaging higher degrees of commitment and performance

Wow, music to the ears of any fan of conscious and/or Win/Win business practices!
Yet, why stop here? Would not all of these noble causes be even easier to achieve by learning and practicing the soft skills necessary to master more conscious body language?

Whether your leadership ambitions involve:

  • Taking a powerful stand which attracts and engages more followers

  • Anchoring customer and community loyalty through more authentic selling skills

  • Serving customers and colleagues so they feel truly seen, heard and understood
